Do you remember when you were a little kid and something really exciting or super special was coming up? Lets take Christmas for example. The months and days leading up to it are filled with so much anticipation, a few nerves and a lot of goose bumps of sheer delight. And when its all over, and the last present is opened, there is a certain element of sadness that it is over, but mostly a sense of overwhelming love and happiness. That is exactly how I have felt about my journey with Leanne and Terry.
Leanne is my sisters, sister in law. My brother in law’s family has become quite close with my own. Family bbq’s, birthdays, and of course my own sisters wedding. It has been a real pleasure getting to know my sisters “in laws,” they are wonderful people. But of course, when you are photographing friends, it gets personal, and with personal… comes A LOT of nerves.
Leanne and Terry had planned a stunning outdoor ceremony at Kurtz Orchards in Niagara on the Lake under the most romantic willow tree. I remember asking Leanne a month prior to the wedding “What if it is raining on your wedding?” her response was “It just can’t.” And of course, for the summer that hadn’t seen a drop of rain in weeks and weeks, I awoke that morning to the horrendous roar of thunder and pouring rain on my rooftop. I wanted to be physically ill. The morning showers passed, and slowly but surely the sky began to clear, and as if the “photography gods” were watching over me, the sun came out and created the most beautiful afternoon imaginable.
An emotional and heartfelt exchange of vows took place amongst the couples closest friends and family, while soft linens swayed in the breeze and chandeliers hung from the trees above. Immediately following the ceremony, guests enjoyed lawn games on the field, sipped wine under the tent and nibbled on fresh cheeses at Gracewood Estates.
Following the cocktail and games hour, family and friends were then shuttled to the market place tent. Large round tables with wooden chivari chairs, accented with centre pieces from Ooh La La Designs set the perfect atmosphere for this stunning vineyard wedding. A first dance under the grand chandelier and speeches to follow, made for a delightful and entertaining dinner. Immediately after dinner, hand rolled cigars were served a alongside a scotch bar and the dancing began. Late night poutine and sweets completed the affair.
Thank you, Leanne and Terry, from the bottom of my heart for sharing your wedding day with me. It was a true honour, and a pleasure beyond words. I hope you enjoy your images as much as I LOVED taking them.
